Dr. Eplee was very excited to welcome “Muriel” to Atchison — now permanently housed at the Amelia Earhart Memorial Airport. Thanks to the generosity of the Bottorff family for the temporary hangar space. Pictured here is Grace McGuire, the previous owner of Muriel for over 30 years, putting some finishing touches on the plane before departing. Muriel was acquired by the Atchison Amelia Earhart Foundation, which is committed to promoting and maintaining the plane. It really is a magnificent plane and will be a fantastic upgrade in a permanent museum at the Atchison Airport. This particular plane, a Lockheed Electra L-10E, is the only surviving plane identical to the plane Amelia Earhart was flying when she disappeared forever.
